Katherine has been working on a patchwork titled ‘For Odette’ that she has made in dedication to an unfinished patchwork she found in the recycling factory last year.
After falling in love with the wonky, hexagonal cardboard templates from the patchwork, her piece celebrates the intimate process of paper piecing (a traditional English patchwork technique) and hand sewing.
Her patchwork was exhibited by the Crafts Council for the end of a maker development project, ‘Hothouse’ she was selected for.
To read more of the story for the patchwork, please see Katherine’s blog.

Design: Yemi Awosile & Jochem Faudet
In the first phase of a collaboration between myself, Textile Designer Yemi Awosile and Industrial Designer Jochem Faudet, we designed of a series of light diffusers for this years London Design Festival. The focal point is to capture complimentary characteristics in materials e.g. hard versus soft and function versus decoration. Using the characteristics of the material we specially developed structural and elasticated textiles which are held together to form three dimensional pendant lights
Materials: wood & elastic yarn and laser cut metal.

We will all be showing a piece of work at the Ethical Source Expo, the world’s only ethical fabric fair next week on the 6th October, run by the Ethical Fashion Forum. It is being run alongside the big annual eco-textile conference Rite Group conference. Tickets costs £25 to visit the Expo.
Suppliers of ethical fabrics from all around the world will be represented, and we will be part of a new section which highlights the latest trends in eco-textiles. Collectively, in our work we have used organic Peruvian cotton, hemp, and cork (made as a by-product of the wine industry in Potrugal).
Hemp is actually the most prominent eco-material in our work – Katherine uses 100% hemp as part of the patchwork patterns in her new baby quilts, Polly has hand printed onto 100% hemp and Clara has digitally-printed onto a hemp/organic cotton mix. Who would have thought hemp could be used so beautifully!

We have been mentioned in a gorgeous new Danish magazine called Stella, in an article on Katherine and the return of patchwork. Although anything that ‘returns’ means it may leave again, and we’re convinced patchwork is a classic and is not going anywhere…
Anywayt, its a lovely little write up and the magazine looks great too.

Our stand at Top Drawer is looking lovely, but we are feeling a little hemmed in! Hence, today Kate and Yemi got the chalk out and all our lovely textile samples and made a big wall of mess behind our stand. Will post better images of our new work on show there tomorrow…

We have been busy in the studio preparing for Top Drawer and our Open Studio event, and lovely intern Lizzie took time out to model one of Clara’s dresses, made for an ethical fashion competition a few years ago, batik-ed in Ghana by a group of amazing expert batik-ers.
